A Perfectly Customized Cabin In Montana

This log house construction by log house builders Montana Custom Log Homes combines milled log house construction with a stunning Big Sky countryside that owners Jeff and Malea Higgins call home. The beautiful log house floor plan has 1,906 square feet of space with 2 bedrooms, including the loft, and one bathroom. The Indiana born couple moved to the beautiful Bitterroot Valley and its no wonder with those views, wildlife, and the people, they love everything about Big Sky Country. The Higgins settled in the mountains above Stevensville, a sleepy little hamlet that is recognized as the first permanent settlement in the state. They chose this Montana property because it had the right combination of existing cabin buildings, a perfect spot for their log cabin, and fantastic views at an affordable price.

Once they had the property then they had to decide what kind of home design would suit it. A log cabin building fit the bill perfectly, so to put help put this plan into action, they contacted Montana Custom Log Homes, located in nearby Victor, Montana, to help them design and to construct their new dream cabin building. The couple liked the log house plans and the flexibility that the company offered and felt that their customer service was superior to other log house companies with whom they had spoken. They liked the look of the consistent-diameter milled log house packages. They were also able to design and create the exact log house space they had envisioned, including taking advantage of the slope of their mountainside The kitchen, dining and living areas flow together nicely, and the stairways frame the high back wall. They also added a walkout basement to the standard log cabin design, which allowed more living space both inside and out.

The living spaces in the log house flow out onto the upper and lower covered porches that run the whole length of their log cabin. The couple uses the upper covered porch the most because they love the view towards the valley. They thought it was a great use of all the log house square footage. The bathroom is where function meets beauty with custom flooring and a specially designed shower space. The bathroom floor was poured concrete that the couple stained and polished themselves by hand. It's a durable, beautiful and cost-effective type of flooring.

The mountains of Montana provided all the inspiration that the couple needed to complete the cabin buildings' exterior and decorate their space. They found a concrete company in nearby Hamilton to manufacture the perfect color for the log house foundation. They applied the faux stone to the perimeter of the log house, then built a patio off the front door to accentuate their handiwork. For the log house rustic décor, which features bits of red throughout, there are also the perfect accents for the log stair treads to complete their bear log house theme. This amazing log house was designed and built from the heart, the perfect shining star in Montana’s Big Sky country.

Heyo! The other day my wife and I decided that we were going to redo all of our bedroom furniture. It has been a long time since we had something really nice and we thought, maybe, we would start out with something new, in our new home, and we would try to upgrade the lifestyle a little bit with matching furniture.

Not wanting to spend any money, we decided that we would look on facebook marketplace! We found a beautiful set of slightly damaged, solid wood chest of drawers and side tables. So, we thought, BOOM! This is what we are going to restore!

It was incredibly heavy and a neighbor graciously helped me carry the heaviest piece into my car - thank you, unnamed stranger! On the way home, I decided that I needed to redesign this piece.

It was originally a solid wood Pottery Barn chest of drawers and two end tables; it was stained with a dark chest nut but was old, damaged, and severely scratched. I decided that I was going to sand the entire set down: Keep in mind, I have never done anything like this and am winging it (Professionals: please, forgive my mistakes:)

バレンティンはブラウン神父を招いて夕食会を開いている。

他のゲストは、「典型的なフランスの科学者」であるシモン博士と、イギリス大使のギャロウェイ卿で、妻と娘（後者はマーガレット・グラハム夫人）を伴っている。

また、フランス外人部隊に所属するアイルランド人のオブライエン司令官や、宗教団体への多額の寄付を目的としたアメリカ人の大富豪ジュリアス・K・ブレインも参加している。

オブライエンはレディー・マーガレットに思いを寄せたいが、ギャロウェイ卿は彼を信用せず、2人を引き離したいと考えていることがすぐにわかった。

夕食の後、ギャロウェイ卿はオブライエンがマーガレット夫人と一緒にいないことを確認するために、マーガレット夫人を探して家の中を歩き回る。

オブライエンが庭から家に入るのを見て、自分も庭に入ってみると、壁際の長い草むらの中に死体があるのに気づく。

死体を動かすと、頭がきれいに切り取られていた。

家の中で使われたと思われる唯一の武器は、オブライエン司令官の騎兵隊のサーベルである。

オブライエンは到着したときに身につけていたが、夕食の前に脱いで書斎のテーブルに置いたまま行方不明になっている。

そして、オブライエンはマーガレット夫人と庭にいて、結婚を申し込んだが断られたことが判明する。

そのため、彼女はオブライエンの無実を証明することができる。

しかし、帽子とコートを持って家を出たと思われるジュリアス・ブレインの姿は見当たらない。

そこへヴァレンティンの下男イワンが、家の外の道の茂みで見つけた血のついた騎兵隊のサーベルを持って現れる。

これでジュリアス・ブレインに疑いの目が向けられたが、被害者が誰なのかはまだわかっていない。

バレンティンは全員に一晩家にいるように頼んだため、これ以上の進展は翌朝になってからである。

サイモン博士はオブライエンに事件の5つの「巨大な難問」を説明する。

すなわち、被害者がどうやって入ったのか、犯人がどうやって出てきたのか、ポケットナイフで十分なのになぜサーベルが使われたのか、犯人が近づいてきても被害者が泣き叫ばなかったのはなぜか、頭部が切り落とされた後につけられたに違いない切り傷が体にあるのはなぜか、ということだ。

そこへブラウン神父がやってきて、サイモンとオブライエンに、2つ目の切断された頭部がセーヌ川のそばの葦の中で発見されたことを伝える。

ブラウン神父はそれがジュリアス・ブレインのものであることを確認する。

ブレインが騎兵隊のサーベルを使って最初の殺人を犯したのであれば、2番目の殺人を犯すことはできないはずだ。

続いてイワンは、最初の被害者がドイツ人犯罪者のアーノルド・ベッカーで、その双子の兄ルイが前日パリでギロチンにかけられていたことを明かす。

イワンは最初に死体を見た時、ルイ・ベッカーに似ていることにショックを受けたが、その後、双子の兄弟の存在を思い出したのだった。

これは色んな意味で何とも不思議な話だ。

まず第一に、いくつかの矛盾がある。

サーベルは庭の壁から投げ捨てられていたが、イワンは「パリへの道を50ヤード進んだところ」で見つけたと報告している。

ジュリアス・ブレインの帽子とコートは、置いてきた場所にはないが、どこにあるのか？この点については全く触れられていない。

また、ヴァレンティンはオブライエン司令官が騎兵隊のサーベルを身につけて到着することだけでなく、そのサーベルを書斎のテーブルに都合よく置いていくことをどうやって知っていたのかという疑問もる。

ヴァレンティンの計画を成功させるためには、ギロチンの刃と同じ効果を持つ武器を確実に手に入れる必要があったのではないか。

また、ほぼ確実に発見されるであろう首と剣を壁に投げつけることに何の意味があったのかとも考えられる。

もし、ジュリアス・ブレインを殺して、あたかもブレインが死刑囚の双子の兄弟を殺したように見せかけることが目的だったとしたら、それは奇妙なやり方だと思う。

アーノルド・ベッカーがどのようにして庭に入ったのかを説明することは、常に根本的な難しさがあった。

最後に、なぜヴァレンティンは自殺したのか？ブラウン神父が解答を出したとき、彼はその場にいなかったから、ゲームが終わったことを知っていたからではないだろう。

もともと自殺するつもりだったが、興味深い謎を残しておきたかったのだろうか。

物語の中ではその説明はなされていない。

G・K・チェスタトン（1874年5月29日～1936年6月14日）は、ブラウン神父の物語を書き始める前に、すでに探偵小説を1冊出版していた。

『The Man Who Was Thursday』で、チェスタトンはガブリエル・サイムという探偵を登場させ、7人のメンバーがそれぞれ異なる曜日の名前を持つ無政府主義者のグループに潜入させた。

サイムは、木曜日だった男と入れ替わる。

最初、サイムはこのグループが何を達成しようとしているのか理解できず、奇妙に感じていた。

このパラドックスは、7人の "アナーキスト "が実は社会に存在しない脅威を調査するために別々に配属された刑事であるとチェスタトンが説明することで解消される。

『木曜日の男』は、問題を解決するために明確に考えるというチェスタトンの能力を示すものではあるが、このパラドックスの解決策はあまりにも非現実的であり、多くの読者は、チェスタトンがなぜこのような奇妙な結末の本を書いたのかと疑問に思っている。

秘密組織の7人のメンバーが全員警察官であるというのは、ほとんど信じられないことである。

批評家はこの作品をどのように解釈すべきか迷っている。

チェスタトンの実兄であるセシルは、この作品が過度に楽観的な世界観を表現していると考えたが、他の批評家は『木曜日の男』をその悲観論で批判した。

ブラウン神父の物語では、このような視点の問題は存在しない。

なぜならば、読者や他の登場人物を悩ませていた場面や出来事の真の意味を、頭脳明晰なブラウン神父が常に説明してくれるからである。

登場人物は、刑事、犯人、容疑者、被害者の知人など、いずれもブラウン神父が事件を正しく解決したという結論に達している。

ブラウン神父の秘密
チェスタトンは1927年に発表した短編小説「ブラウン神父の秘密」の中で、自分の探偵の2つの大前提を述べている。

ブラウン神父は、怪しげな推理をしたり、不誠実な宗教的信念を表明する容疑者を非常に疑っている。

ブラウン神父は、間違った推理をする人物は犯罪者である可能性が高いと直感的に感じている。

第二に、ブラウン神父は「殺人者」の心の中に完全に入り込み、「彼の思考を考え、彼の情熱と格闘する」ように努めている。

ブラウン神父は、犯罪者が誰なのか、どのようにして犯罪が行われたのかを判断する前に、何が罪人を特定の犯罪に駆り立てるのかを理解する必要がある。

ブラウン神父の最良の物語は、チェスタトンが1911年に出版した『ブラウン神父の無実』に掲載されたものだと、ほとんどの評論家は考えている。

後期のブラウン神父の物語を軽視してはならないが、ごく初期の物語は独創的で、何世代にもわたって読者に愛され続けている。

『ブラウン神父の無実』に収録されているいくつかの物語は、ブラウン神父がいかに直感的に正しく事件を解決するかを見事に表現している。

「青い十字架」では、パリ警察のトップであるアリスティド・ヴァランタンが、変装の名人であるフランボーという悪名高い泥棒を逮捕するためにロンドンに派遣される。

バレンティンはフランボーの身長が180cm以上あることは知っていたが、フランボーがどのような服装をしているかは知らなかった。

ロンドンの街を歩いていたヴァレンティンは、ふと2人のカトリックの神父に惹かれる。

一人は背が低く、もう一人は背が高い。

背の低い方の神父は、人目を引くように奇妙な行動をとる。

レストランの壁にわざとスープを投げつけたり、八百屋の外に置いてあるリンゴを崩したり、別のレストランの窓を割ったりするのだ。

この奇妙な行動が商人たちを悩ませ、商人たちは警察官にハムステッド・ヒースに向かって歩いている神父たちを追跡するよう依頼する。

読者は、背の低い神父が自分の身を守るために尾行を望んでいることをすぐに理解する。

背の高い神父（実はフランボー）が、背の低い神父ブラウンに、ハムステッドの教会に運んでいたサファイアの十字架を差し出すように命じた矢先、ブラウン神父は、フランボーを逮捕するために「強い警官2人」とヴァレンティンが木の陰で待っていると告げる。

驚いたフランボーはブラウン神父に、なぜ自分が本物の神父ではないとわかったのかと尋ねる。

読者は、物語の序盤で、この背の高い神父が、「理性に訴えるのは現代の異教徒だけで、真のカトリック教徒は理性を使わない」と断言したことから、ブラウン神父を疑うようになったことを知る。

ブラウン神父はフランボーに言う。

"君は理性を攻撃した。

「それは悪い神学だ」と言った。

ブラウン神父は、背の高い神父が神父であるはずがないと直感し、その通りになったのである。
